John ""Jack"" Burns, 89, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Meadow Lakes Assisted Living in Hightstown, with his family by his side. Born in Brooklyn, he moved from Long Island and resided in Bordentown for 20 years prior to moving to Meadow Lakes 4 years ago. A US Air Force veteran of WWI, he retired as an engineer from Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Bethpage, NY. Jack's name was engraved on a plaque that flew in Apollo 9 on March 3, 1969, acknowledging the Grumman team members who designed the Lunar Module. He was a member of St. Mary's Church of Bordentown and the Bordentown Seniors. Jack's family was very dear to him and he will be sadly missed by all.
Son of the late Thomas and Florence Burns, husband of the late Elaine I. Burns and grandfather of the late Michael Burns, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Nancy Burns and Donald and Debbie Burns both of Crosswicks, NJ and Richard Burns of Ronkonkoma, NY; his daughter, Janice Talbot and her husband Rich of Bordentown; 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Allison, Christopher, Robert and Eric Burns, Jessica Keefe, Kristin, Richie and Lisa Talbot and Jillian Brady and 13 great grandchildren, Hayley, Emma, Abby, Michael, Elaine, Jack, Owen, Sarah, Caleb, Sophia, Lexi, Cory and Callie.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 am Saturday, October 12 at St. Mary's Church, 45 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown. Interment of cremains will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call 9am until time of Mass at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary's Church, or a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Bordentown.
