Johanne Lehmann Dengler, 102, a resident of Hedding, Mansfield Twp. since 1940, died peacefully on March 15 after a brief hospital stay with her family by her side.
Johanne was born January 9, l906 in Duisburg, Germany. She immigrated to America in l928 and soon became involved in the aviation industry in Chicago. She was a partner in an airplane manufacturing company and learned to fly a plane at the age of 24. In Hedding, she was employed for many years in the Dzaman Machine Shop as a press operator.
She was a long time member of the Hedding United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir until she was in her late 80's. Prior to coming to this country, she sang in the chorus of the Duisburg Opera in Germany. Her many interests, besides her beloved church and family, included gardening, quilting, reading, her pets, and politics. She is known for making the best apple pie on the planet.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Paul and Cynthia Dengler of Hedding, George and Heide Dengler of Crosswicks, one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Daniel Placido of Davidsonville, Maryland, her sister, Luise Lehmann of Duisburg, Germany, seven grandchildren, Jacqueline Pfiffer, Philip and Paul Dengler Jr, Erika Pearson, Becky Dengler, John and Susan Placido and five great-grandchildren, Brittany and Kirk Dengler, Evan Pearson, and Laney and Max Placido.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 19 for family and friends at Hedding United Methodist Church, Old York and Kinkora Roads, Hedding, NJ. Interment will follow at Bordentown Cemetery, Bordentown. Arrangements are by Peppler Funeral Home in Bordentown.
