Joan M. Smith (nee Muschal), 76, of Cream Ridge, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Capital Health Systems, Fuld. Born in Trenton, she was a long time Hamilton resident before moving to Cream Ridge, 12 years ago. Joan was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Trenton. Her main vocation was being a loving wife and mother. For several years she worked as a secretary for St. Anthony's High School in Hamilton before later working for the State of New Jersey Department of Higher Education, retiring in 1999. Joan was a member of the Jensen's Community and the Woman's Stitchery Club. She was also an active member of St. Vincent de Paul in Yardville.
Daughter of the late Matthias and Josephine Muschal, she was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Donald Muschal. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James R. Smith; her children, James T. Smith (Janna), Sharon McCabe (Mick), Colleen Hanson (John) and Christine Belardo (Anthony) and her grandchildren, Michael and Alyssa Smith, Michael and Ryan McCabe, Jackie Hanson and Matthew, Christopher and Carleigh Belardo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, 11 am at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 555 Allentown Rd., Yardville, NJ. 08620. Interment will follow in No. Crosswicks Cemetery, Hamilton. Friends may call Sunday from 2-5pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society C/O St. Vincent de Paul Church.
