Obituary

Joan C. Rogers, 81, of Columbus, NJ changed her address to heaven on June 18, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She joins her beloved husband Bill who passed earlier in the month.
Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Joan grew up in Trenton and graduated from Hamilton High School West. Joan worked for several years as a secretary at Transamerica Delaval where she met her husband Bill. They were married at Our Lady of Sorrows church in Mercerville, NJ in 1956. Joan was a stay-at-home mom for many years until her children were in high school. She was very involved in her children's lives and assisted with all their school and recreational activities. Joan loved being a mom. She also cared for her in-laws who resided at Joan and Bill's home for over 20 years. Joan was a master seamstress. She sewed most of her daughter's clothes including all of Amanda's prom gowns. She even designed and made new slipcovers for the family's sofa. In addition to being a great seamstress, Joan was also a master knitter. She knitted many beautiful sweaters, socks, hats and scarves.
Joan started working part-time at the Crosswicks Post Office in the early 1980's. She was a Postal Clerk and loved every minute of it. She enjoyed working "the window" where she got to know and chat with the locals several days a week. She knew everyone's post office box number by heart. After a while, she started to identify people by their box numbers. She would say things like "I just saw box number 62 riding his bike through town today or box 198 just got a Buick." She also attended the Crosswicks United Methodist Church and in later years the Presbyterian Church in Oak Island, North Carolina.
Upon retirement from the Post Office, Joan and Bill moved to Oak Island, NC and spent 16 wonderful years enjoying the Carolina beaches. They loved having visits from their New Jersey friends. Joan also enjoyed walking on the beach, playing Bunco with the ladies in the neighborhood, and hosting book club meetings in her home with her husband. Joan and Bill moved back to New Jersey 5 years ago and resided in Columbus.
Joan was predeceased by her parents Walter and Anna (Chato) Ozmon, her beloved husband of 59 years William R. Rogers, and her brother Walter Ozmon. She is survived by her son Glenn W. Rogers of Crosswicks, NJ and granddaughter ReBecca J. Rogers also of Crosswicks; her daughter Amanda (Rogers) Parady and her husband Victor Parady of Hamilton, NJ; and her brother John "Jack" Ozmon and his wife Gladys of Oak Island, NC. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Kenneth N. Rogers and his wife Jan of Minnetrista, MN; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved granddog Bella Parady who visited her weekly.
The family would like to thank Dawn Cular and Mary Anne Grove for their amazing love and support during this very difficult time.
A visitation with the family will be held Friday, June 24th from 6-8 pm with a memorial service to be held at 8 pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St., Bordentown. Contributions may be made to the Crosswicks Library Company, PO Box 147, Crosswicks, NJ, 08515.
