Obituary

Janet Phyllis and Rev. Frederick Staton Bentley, Jr. passed away on December 30 th and December 31, 2021 respectively, at RWJ in Hamilton.

Janet was born in Hopewell on July 23, 1939. She worked as a bank teller for Roma Bank for several years and in her younger years was active with special needs children. She was also a regular service lector at Upper Freehold Baptist Church in Imlaystown as well as at previous locations in Central New Jersey.

Pastor Bentley was born in Trenton on October 30, 1938. He served as the minister at the Upper Freehold Baptist Church and was an active trustee for the Friends of the Old Yellow Meeting House in Cream Ridge. He was also a trustee of the Gospel Mission Corps Inc and served as a volunteer minister in the Chapels.

Janet and Staton loved being together and were never far from one another. They were active with bible study at Upper Freehold Baptist Church and loved taking trips to the shore where they would watch the boats and the birds, feed the animals, and enjoy a good meal. Above all, the Bentley's loved spending time with family, including their church family.

Predeceased by their parents, Anna and John Sheppard, Sr. and Elsie and Frederick Staton Bentley, Sr. they were also predeceased by Janet's sisters, Ethel Buckley and Jean Collelo and sister-in-law, Barbara Sheppard. They are survived by Janet's brother, John W. Sheppard Jr.; Godchildren, Tina Bartholomew and her husband Fred and Fred Sheppard; nieces and nephews, Kathleen Vitz, Elizabeth Conte and her husband John, Richard Buckley and his wife Joanie, Donald Buckley and his wife Debbie, Charles Buckley and his wife Patricia; great niece, Isabella Bartholomew as well as many other great nieces and nephews and special friends Robert and Sandy Turton.

A viewing will be held at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St., Allentown on Monday, January 10 th from 10am-12pm with a funeral service to begin at 12pm. Interment will follow in the Yellow Meeting House Cemetery, Imlaystown.

Memorial contributions may be made in the Bentley's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Friends of Old Yellow Meeting House, PO Box 23, Cream Ridge, NJ 08514.
