James D. (Dan) Morgan, 101, passed away at his home on Monday, May 6, 2024, days shy of his 102nd birthday. Born in Neptune, NJ, he was raised in Trenton and resided in Allentown for many years, before moving to Wrightstown, NJ.
Dan attended Trenton Catholic High School and enlisted in the US Navy on August 15, 1942. He completed boot camp in Newport R.I. and enrolled in Aviation School in Jacksonville, FL, completing it in June of 1943. Dan served during WWII in the Atlantic Theater from June 1943 to May 1944 and the Pacific Theater from May 1944 to October 1946. He served the remainder of his time in the service in the 11th Naval District, San Diego, CA, until his discharge in August of 1948.
In 1950, he and his wife, Emily, moved to Allentown, NJ. In 1951, Dan began working in basic research as a machinist and model maker for RCA David Sarnoff Research Facility in Princeton, NJ, retiring on January 1, 1985.
He was an active member of the Allentown Community, serving as an elected member of the Borough Council from 1974-1976. He was also a member of the Hope Fire Company No.1 for over 35 years.
A devoted Catholic, Dan and his wife joined St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church the day they moved to Allentown. As a 74-year member of the church, he served on the Parish Council, was a lector, member of the choir, Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister, and participated in First Friday Sick Visits. He joined the Knights of Columbus #7333 in 1980 and was a past Financial Secretary. He became a 4th degree member and served as a Comptroller and Color Corp Commander with Bishop Ahr Assembly # 3087.
Son of the late James and Agnes Morgan, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Emily M. Morgan (nee Zeh). Dan was also predeceased by his daughter and son-in-law, Ann Marie and Donald Smith, and his four siblings, Louise Holt, Harold Morgan, Nancy Hill, and David Morgan. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Paul Sink of CA, Louise Morgan of Germany, and Jamie and Edward Byrne of Wrightstown, NJ; his sister, Marylyn Seyler of NC; 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren (with two on the way) and many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held Friday, May 10th from 6-8pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown, NJ 08501. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2pm Saturday, May 11th at St. John the Baptist RC Church, Allentown. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
