Obituary

James A. McCue, Jr. passed suddenly at his home in Bordentown, NJ where he lived for over 35 years. He leaves behind two family sized bags of chocolate peanut butter cups and too many broken hearts to count.

James was born in Brooklyn, NY the third of Marion (née Coombs) and James A McCue, Sr.'s seven children. Growing up, one of his favorite activities was collecting lost golf balls, selling them back to golfers and buying treats for his little sisters with the proceeds. In 1968, James was drafted and left home to serve his country as radio mechanic in the Vietnam War. His first day in country he went AWOL to see Bob Hope in a USO show because "what were they going to do send me to Vietnam?" Upon his return home and honorable discharge he graduated the New York City Police Academy and was partnered with kindred spirit, Kevin B. Dolan. A lifelong friendship was born. Their many adventures include delivering an infant in the backseat of a car and rescuing a run-away horse on the Belt Parkway. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Brooklyn College.

Known for his irreverent sense of humor and inability to be serious, he brought sunlight into every room he entered. James had an irresistible charm and a talent for making people feel seen and welcome. He never knew a stranger, leaving every encounter with a newfound friend.

More than anything James was deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Noreen (née Narell) with whom he built a beautiful life. James loved his five children and was proud of the people they became. Mary Jo (Kevin) Sullivan, Deedee (Mark) McCue Rizzuto, Katie (Bryan) McGinn, James McCue III and Conor McCue all carry a piece of him: his laugh, his big heart, his sense of humor, his dance moves and his strong work ethic. Most of all he loved being a Pop-Pop and his legacy continues in his three grandchildren: Declan James Rizzuto, Stevie Maeve McGinn and Grady Joseph McGinn. He will forever be the missing piece for his brother and five sisters: John McCue Sr., Marion Tucker, Sharon Gurke, Maureen Murphy, Paula DiPaola and Bernadette Mehrtens. James was a favorite among his many nieces and nephews and will be remembered fondly and with laughter. As much as those of us left behind will miss him, we know he was excited to once again be reunited with his parents and beloved dog Shea-Shea.

Visitors will be received on Tuesday, June 24 from 6pm to 8pm and Wednesday, June 25th from 10am to 11am at Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown NJ. A Memorial Mass for James will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 25th , 11am at St. Mary's Church, 45 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ 08505.
