James Francis Christenson, one heck of a guy, was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 18, 1943 and passed away Friday, January 8,2021. Son of the late Vera and Edward Christenson, he is survived by his brother, Edward Thomas Christenson.
Jimmy attended Brooklyn Tech High School and Fort Hamilton High School and after graduation, he followed in his father's footsteps and worked for the NY Shipping Association, the ILA. After a few years of working for the ILA, he became a New York City Police Officer where he patrolled many neighborhoods in the NYC area. Following his retirement from the NYPD, Jimmy pursued a career in the health care field. He graduated from Long Island College, School of Nursing and worked as a nurse for the Staten Island University Hospital South. He loved his new career and was awarded Nurse of the Year.
Some of Jimmy's favorite times were spend with his family. He loved family gatherings, especially Sunday dinners with his wife Pat of 50 years, his daughter, Veronica Christenson, his son-in-law, Matthew, and his beloved grandchildren, Fintan James, Lochlan Robert, and Alice Veronica. Jimmy will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
Jimmy was an active member of St. John the Baptist, Knights of Columbus Council# 7333. He joined the Knights as a young man in Brooklyn and continued his membership at St. John's in Allentown. Jimmy loved marching with the Color Corp in the Allentown Memorial Day parade and was extremely proud to be a Knight.
Jimmy had many hobbies that included sailing the Long Island Sound shore, fly fishing on the Battenkill River in VT and on the Beaverkill River in Roscoe, NY. He also enjoyed woodworking and built many cabinets, bookcases, and cubbies for his grandchildren.
Jimmy was a wonderful human being and gave freely of himself to all he loved and will always be remembered for his sharp and dry sense of humor.
Services for will be private at St. John the Baptist Church in Allentown. A celebration of Jimmy's life will be planned for a later date in 2022.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jim's name to the Knights of Columbus Council 7333 C/O St. John the Baptist RC Church, 1282 Yardville-Allentown Rd., Allentown, NJ 08501.
Arrangements are under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home in Allentown.
