Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ivan Schepelenko, aged 81, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, friend, and proud American. Born in Ukraine during the harrowing years of the famine, Ivan's early life was shaped by resilience and hope. Together with his family, he emigrated to the United States in search of a brighter future, finding a new home in Morrisville, PA.

Ivan's sense of duty led him to answer the call of his adopted country, and he served bravely after being drafted into the Vietnam War. His courage and commitment on the field were matched by the discipline he would later bring to his long career as a Corrections Officer at the New Jersey State Prison, where he steadily rose to the rank of Lieutenant. Ivan's leadership was marked by integrity, fairness, and compassion for both his colleagues and those in his care.

Known as the "go-to guy" for any home or car repair, Ivan's hands were rarely still. His passion for woodworking and classic cars was exceeded only by his generosity; family, friends, and neighbors knew they could always count on him for help, advice, or a job done right. He cherished time spent outdoors, whether hunting or fishing, and found joy in sharing these pursuits with loved ones.

Ivan's heart belonged to his family. He delighted in vacationing with them in the Outer Banks and treasured the many social gatherings that filled their lives with laughter and stories. His legacy is one of steadfast love, guidance, and a spirit of service that touched all who knew him.

Predeceased by his beloved parents, Peter and Nina Schepelenko, as well as his brother Alexander Schepelenko, Ivan's memory lives on in the hearts of those he leaves behind: his sister Nadia and her husband Mark Salaga of Morrisville; his son Peter and daughter-in-law Sandra Schepelenko of Bordentown; his daughter JoAnne and son-in-law Frank Malta of East Brunswick; and his cherished granddaughters: Samantha Schepelenko, Marisa Malta, and Mia Malta. He was also beloved 'Uncle John' to several nieces and nephews.

Services to honor and celebrate Ivan's life will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St., Allentown, NJ. Visitation will take place from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will follow at Morrisville Cemetery, Morrisville, PA.
