Irene S. Hancock, 91, of Yardville, passed away Monday, May 9, 2011 at her home. Born and raised in Yardville, she resided on the same property for her entire life. A 1937 graduate of Hamilton High School, Irene worked for Yardville Supply and was also an office clerk for the Hamilton Township School District. She was a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church of Yardville, where she was the 1st Woman Elder and taught Sunday school for many years. Irene was also a member of the Allentown Villagers. An avid gardener who won many awards for her flower arrangements, Irene was a founder of the Nottingham Garden Club. She loved life and was passionate about animals, flowers, nature and especially, her family.
Predeceased in 1993 by her husband William Hancock, Irene is survived by her daughter, Susan Dutton-Engebretson and her husband, David; a niece, Lurene Senf; two nephews, George and Fred Senf as well as many other nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Irene will be missed by many other close family friends and neighbors.
Funeral Services will be held 10am on Friday, May 13th at the United Presbyterian Church of Yardville, 12 Yardville-Hamilton Sq. Rd, Yardville, NJ 08620. Interment will follow in No. Crosswicks Cemetery, Hamilton. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7 to 9pm at the Peppler Funeral Home 114 So. Main St. Allentown, NJ 08501. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Yardville Building Fund.
