Herman Rohleder, ""Pop"", 77, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008. Herman was the beloved husband of Eileen, cherished father of Diane, Eric, Kris, and #3 son Christopher; loving older brother of Henry and younger brother of Elsie; and devoted grandfather of Alexis, Jason, Austin, Ashleigh, and Alec.
Originally from Queens, New York, Herman was the son of two German immigrant parents, Elizabeth and Hermann Rohleder. He attended Brooklyn Tech, where he terrorized his teachers and buddies with his experiments and pranks. Herman grew up working in their deli, which later became a liquor store he ran with his brother Henry. Many years later, Herman found his true calling as a Senior Investigator, for the State of New York, where he harassed the criminals and the lawyers for the state simultaneously.
Herman was an unsung hero on many fronts â?? rescued a buddy from near death in a duck hunting incident; helped all kinds of people in need, without ever mentioning his kind acts to anyone. We would often find out about those acts later â?? from the beneficiaries.
Herman was ever a New Yorker until his wife of 35 years, Eileen, moved him out to the country in Allentown, New Jersey in 2005 for the retired tranquil life ""on golden pond."" Herman enjoyed visits with his grandchildren, feeding and housing the birds, and of course, devouring reading materials faster than anyone could supply them. Herman was an avid reader of newspapers and books of all flavors. Herman was brave beyond belief to the end. He will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends.
Funeral service will be held Thursday 12pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown. Interment will follow in Princeton Memorial Park, Robbinsville.
