Herbert Polhemus, 87 of Woodstock, VA, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 at his home. Born in Cream Ridge, he resided there until 1968 when he moved to New Market, VA and later to Woodstock. While growing up in Cream Ridge, Herbert worked on the family farm and helped out many of the local farmers. He also worked as the caretaker for Allentown Presbyterian Church and the Emely's Hill Cemetery; installed markers for Joseph Bowker Monuments and worked part-time for the Allentown Police Department. Herbert retired from Bowman Apple Products where he worked for 15 years.
Son of the late Walter and Jennie Polhemus; he was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Donald and Arnold Polhemus and Ethel Emley. Herbert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Pluma Polhemus; his daughter Bonnie Earley and her husband Jim of Waynesboro, VA; his sons, Donald Polhemus and his girlfriend, Jackie Emerick of Woodstock, VA and Herbert D. Polhemus and his girlfriend, Kelly Good Singleton of Woodstock, VA; his sisters, Ruth Krukowski of Hightstown, Dorothy Hamnett of Allentown and Naomi Herbert of Guntersville, AL as well as 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 12pm on Friday, August 19th at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown. Interment will follow in the Emley's Hill Cemetery, Cream Ridge. Friends may call Friday from 10am until the time of service at the funeral home.
