Helmi Barlen, 70, of Allentown, died on August 10th 2010, as the result of Acute Leukemia. Born August 14, 1939 in Darmstadt, Germany, she worked in retailing for almost 40 years at B. Altman in Short Hills, NJ and I. Magnin in Washington DC, where she managed both the designer and better dresses departments. She lived with her husband, Bill, of 47 years, in the Four Seasons at Upper Freehold Adult Community, having previously lived in Springfield, VA and Madison, CT. Helmi was an active member of the Swim and Sport Club of Flanders, NJ, for 49 years, where she served at times as treasurer and dues collector.
Helmi is survived by her husband, Bill Barlen; a sister, Marga Hausser and her family of Darmstadt, Germany; a brother-in-law, sister-in-law and their family, the Dr. William Caskey Family of Lawrenceville, NJ.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 14th, from 3 to 7 pm, followed by a memorial service that evening at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 South Main Street in Allentown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Helmi's name may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 14 Commerce Drive Suite 301, Cranford, NJ 07016, or take your husband or wife out to dinner in her name.
