Helen Marie Mika, 78, of Hamilton, passed away Monday, September 20, 2010 at her home. Born Trenton, she was a resident of Allentown for many years, before moving to Hamilton in 2000. Marie retired from the Borough of Allentown in 1992 where she served as the Tax Collector and Treasurer for 29 years. She also served as the Borough Clerk, Registrar of Vital Statistics and Water and Sewer Rent Collector for 21 years and Purchasing Agent for 16 years. She was Grand Marshall of the Allentown Lions Club Memorial Day Parade in 1992 and was chosen as Woman of the Year in 1996 by the Woman's Association of Allentown. Marie was the past president of the Municipal Clerks' Association of Monmouth County, the past treasurer of the Monmouth and Ocean County Tax Collectors' and Treasurers' Association; was a lifetime member of the Governmental Purchasing Association of New Jersey, the Villagers of Allentown and was a member of the Allentown United Methodist Church. Marie completed several courses offered by the American Institute of Banking. She also completed several courses offered by the Government Exterior Division of Rutgers University which were required by the State of New Jersey as a Certified Municipal Clerk and Certified Tax Collector, in addition to many other courses required by the State to perform her duties while employed by the Borough of Allentown.
Daughter of the late Clifford and Mildred Leming, sister of the late Catherine Cash and predeceased by her husband, William J. Mika; Marie is survived by her son, Donald and Barbara Davison of Yardville; her daughter, Dawne Davison McDonald of Bordentown Twp.; her grandson, Ryan McDonald; her sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Lee Taylor of Cream Ridge, as well as nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Friday, September 24th at 11am at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown. The Rev. George N. Zigich will officiate. Entombment will follow in Princeton Memorial Park, Robbinsville. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8pm and again Friday, 10am until the time of service at the funeral home.
