Helen Jean Bivona-Schoonover (nee Hockman), 81, of Yardville, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at her home. Born in Purgitsville, West Virginia, Jean worked for the Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC where she met her husband, Lewis. They moved to Trenton in 1956 and later to Allentown in 1961. Jean loved caring for her family and spent many years as a homemaker. She was a 53 year member of the Allentown Presbyterian Church, where she was also a member of the Presbyterian Woman's Club, the Church Choir and a founding member of the Couples Club. After her husband's death, she went on to work for GFI Carpet Padding, where she met her second husband, Charles. An avid gardener, Jean loved to read and was known to have a beautiful singing voice.
Daughter of the late Charles and Helen Hockman, Jean was predeceased by her first husband, Lewis Bivona, Sr. with whom she was married to for 31 years; her second husband of 24 years, Charles Schoonover, and her brother, Don Hockman. Jean is survived by her children and their spouses, Lewis Jr. and Karen Bivona, Lisa and Rev. Michael Shaw, Allan and Linda Bivona, Kevin Bivona and Randall Bivona and Janet Lee Bivona; her brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Loine Hockman; 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11am on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Peppler Funeral Home, 114 So. Main St. Allentown. Friends may call Saturday morning from 10am until time of service. Inurnment will take place in her family cemetery plot in West Virginia at a later date.
