Harold Eugene Honadle, 94, of Cream Ridge, died August 23, 2010 at Compassionate Care Hospice in St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton. Born September 15, 1915 in St. Michael, PA, he grew up in the coal mining town of Windber, PA. After WWII, he resided in Lebanon, PA and then moved to Cream Ridge in 1953, where he lived until last year when he moved to Stony Brook Assisted Living in Pennington.
Son of the late William and Mary Susan Burgoon Honadle, he was predeceased by six brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Holmes Honadle; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Beth Honadle of Cincinnati, OH; a daughter Ann Honadle Van Hise of Cream Ridge; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Tracy and Richard Nugent of Maple Falls, WA and two grandsons, Craig Van Hise of Philadelphia and Jeff Honadle of Cincinnati, OH.
Retired from the automobile business, Harold was a graduate of Albright College where he was a member of their undefeated 1938 football team. During World War II he served as a First Lt. in the Quartermaster Corps in the European Theatre, stationed in Liverpool, England. Mr. Honadle was a member of the Allentown Presbyterian Church, the New Egypt Elks, the Albright College 50+ Club, the Allentown Historical Society and Friends of the Old Yellow Meeting House.
He will be remembered as a car salesman extraordinaire, a shrewd poker player and a lively storyteller. For many years he also enjoyed growing and selling Christmas trees, but nothing gave him more pleasure than time spent with his grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 11th at 3pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 So. Main St., Allentown, NJ. Friends may call Saturday, 2pm until the time of service. Interment will be in the Old Yellow Meeting House Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
