Obituary

Gloria Fay McCarty, 91, of Columbus, passed away Monday, December 16, 2019 at Samaritan Hospice, Mt. Holly. Born in Worchester, PA she and her husband Donald resided in Hamilton Twp., for most of her life and enjoyed their property in Pocono Pines for many years, before moving to Columbus in 2017. Gloria worked at McGraw Hill for 18 years and was an active member of the Hamilton Square Baptist Church for over 61 years. She was instrumental with the church, serving as the co-chair of the Pastoral Care Committee and Beta Tau Kappa which helped World Missions by wrapping bandages and sending them overseas, a task that she loved doing.

Gloria was very civically minded and was a supporter of the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, the Steinert High School Football team and Boy Scout Troop 91. She was a past president of the Mercerville Elementary School PTA and was active with Ginny's Pantry at Christ Presbyterian Church in Hamilton Twp.

Gloria was well rounded and loved cooking, baking, reading and shopping at flea markets and yard sales. She enjoyed fishing, traveling and loved flowers and nature and had a large collection of bird figurines. Gloria was an avid sports fan and loved to root for the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. Above all, Gloria was devoted to her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Daughter of the late Frederick and Estella Reifsneider, she was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.   Gloria is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Donald McCarty; her children, Donna Brown and her husband George of Fairless Hills, PA, Toni McCarty of Somerset, NJ and Terrance McCarty of Columbus, NJ; her grandchildren, Jason Heine (Carrie), Erica Cairoli (Rob), Jessica Steele (Andrew), Matthew Brown, Lindsay Benish (John) and Daniel McCarty (Jacqueline); her great grandchildren, Calli and Jennevieve Heine, Mason and Carter Steele, Amelia and Brielle Cairoli, Cheyenne and Aribella McCarty and Rayna Benish as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 21 st at 11am at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St., Allentown. A viewing will be held from 9-11am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Relay for Life, American Cancer Society at cancer.org or to the Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053.
