Gilbert "Sonny" Vandermark, 76, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at his home. Born in Lambertville, he moved to Little Egg Harbor 15 years ago, fulfilling a lifelong dream of living at the shore on Great Bay and fishing everything from shark, tuna, fluke and stripers, (his favorites) to clamming and blue claw crabbing from his home dock. Hunting and fishing were Sonny's life passions. He was a member of the NJ Cornell Rod and Gun Club and hunted with them and with the Mercer County Park Systems, Kuser Mountain. He would go to New York State and PA every year with the clubs as well as hunting trips to Maine and Nova Scotia. Sonny also enjoyed fishing for salmon in Alaska and marlin in Cabo San Lucas, the Florida Keys and the Caribbean. In addition to being an avid outdoorsman, Sonny had a talent for wine. He made his own wine and built a beautiful wine cellar in his home. Sonny had an easy going manner and a quick wit, which he would share with everyone he liked.
Son of the late Jacob and Florence Vandermark, Sonny is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Donoher Vandermark of Little Egg Harbor; his sister, Jane Brown on Mesa, AZ; a daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Mark Hoffman; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Mark Hoffman all of Sicklerville; nieces, Terry Young of Bangor, ME and Erica Guy of Mesa, AZ; and nephews, Jake and Nick Keane of Cream Ridge and Will Frymire of Gorham, ME.
