Lt. Col. George F. Swan, 92, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Mercerville Center, in Hamilton Township. Born in Trenton, he was a resident of Bordentown for the last 59 years. George was a retired Army Veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam and was the recipient of many accommodations and decorations including the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Bordentown Elks, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, St. Mary's Holy Name Society and a generous Patron of Poor Clare Monastery. George was a past president of the Ft. Dix Retired Officers Association and he and his wife Ann were long-time volunteers at the McGuire AFB Medical Center.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Ann M. Swan (nee Janos), his son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Carolyn Swan of Yardley, PA, his daughter and son-in-law, Janis and John J. Sopko of Hamilton Square, two grandchildren, Ted Swan and his wife Denise of Newtown, PA and Jeffrey J. Sopko and his wife Kelly of Burlington, two great grandsons, Nathan and Shane Swan of Newtown, PA and several nieces and nephews. George was brother of the late Catherine Hamilton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 am Monday, November 21 at St. Mary's Church, 45 Crosswicks St, Bordentown. Interment will follow in Bordentown Cemetery. Friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Family Support, 920 S 107 th Ave, Suite 250, Omaha, NE 68114.
