George W. Rogers, 81, of Allentown, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Mercerville Care Center. Born in Hamilton Square, he was a longtime Allentown resident. A US Army Veteran, he earned his Bachelor's and Masters' degrees from Trenton State College. George taught music for many years at Middlesex County Vocational Schools before retiring as a Guidance Counselor. He was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Fraternity and was the past president of the Middlesex County Teachers Association. George was active in his community, coaching the Allentown Lions traveling softball team and running the Allentown Recreational program. He also enjoyed singing and loved to travel with his wife.
George was the great grandson of John Rogers, a close friend of General Hugh Mercer. His father, George N. Rogers was the last of the Rogers children to be born in the Historic John Rogers House located in Mercer County.
Son of the late George N. and Ethel M. Rogers, George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth A. Rogers; his daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Jerome Bostick; his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Stephanie Rogers and four granddaughters.
Services will be private. Arrangements under the direction of the Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
