George L. Hurley, 58, of Cream Ridge passed away Thursday at Princeton Medical Center. Born in Toms River on Nov. 19, 1948, he was a longtime resident of Cream Ridge and Long Beach Island. A 1971 graduate of Rider College, George joined the firm of Howell & Bogdan in Hightstown and became a CPA in 1973. The firm, which he was devoted to, became George L. Hurley & Assoc in 1985. The former president of the Allentown Savings & Loan, he was the current treasurer of the Hightstown Lions Club and the Greater Hightstown-East Windsor Improvement Project (GHEWIP). He enjoyed the beach, ocean kayaking, reading, gardening and spending time with his family. A devoted husband and adoring father, he will be remembered for his intelligence, compassion and willingness to help others.
Son of the late Leon and Sarah Hurley, he was predeceased by a half-sister. George is survived by his wife of 24 years, Ruth; two daughters, Laura and Kathryn; a brother and sister-in-law, Allen A. and Sharon Hurley; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Anna Gill, Linda and Edward Casals and Barry Gill; five nieces and a nephew, Shelby, Courtney, Brianne, Stephanie, Jill and Brendan; step-mother, Helen and two step-brothers.
Funeral Service will be held Monday 10am at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown. The Rev. Suzanne Schaefer-Coates will officiate. Interment will follow in Princeton Memorial Park, Robbinsville. Friends may call Sunday 5-8pm and again Monday 9-10am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
