Obituary

George Emley, 99, of New Egypt, passed away Friday, November 5, 2010 at his home. Born in Hornerstown, he was a lifetime area resident. A local area farmer, George served on many Committees and Associations including the Plumsted Township Planning Board from 1974 to 1986; the Ocean County Soil Conservation where he served for 25 years; the Executive Committee of the Ocean County Board of Agriculture and also served on the committee that built the Ocean County Agriculture Building. George was a member of the Ocean County Farmers Home Loan Association, a former committeeman of the Farm Service Agency and was a former trustee for the Emley's Hill Cemetery Association. A lifelong Phillies Fan, he remembered listening to Ty Cobb on the radio. George was a quiet and loving man who was always there for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all. Husband of the late Oliva Johnson Emley and predeceased by his grandson, Douglas Hurley and his great granddaughter, Emma Verhoog. George is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Ethel Emley of New Egypt; his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Harry Hurley of Fuquay-Varina, NC; his sister, Mildred Horahan; seven grandchildren, Teresa Verhoog, Denise Thomson, Sandra Maholik, Edgar and Ronald Emley , Donna Verhoog and David Hurley; 19 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 11 A.M. on Tuesday, November 9th at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown. Interment will follow in Emley's Hill Cemetery, Cream Ridge. Friends may call Monday from 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home.
