Gary
Prasto
Feb 11, 1954 — Jun 21, 2026
Gary Thomas Prasto passed away on June 21, 2026, surrounded by family.
Gary was the beloved husband of Barbara; devoted father of Michael and Lisa; loving brother of Gerard and Elaine; and proud grandfather of Grace, Annalise, and Avery. Family was the center of his life, and his greatest joy was spending time with those he loved.
Gary dedicated more than 42 years of his career to Forbes Media, where he was known for his hard work, loyalty, and commitment. He carried those same qualities into every aspect of his life.
He enjoyed playing poker and cruising with family and friends. His greatest happiness, however, came from being a grandfather. Gary was far more than a spectator in his granddaughters' lives—he was their playmate, storyteller, chauffeur, and biggest supporter. He spent countless hours playing with Grace, Annalise, and Avery, reading books, playing games, and creating memories they will carry with them forever. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines at a game, driving them to practice, attending their activities, or simply getting down on the floor to play, Gary treasured every moment with his granddaughters, and they adored him in return.
Gary was a man of quiet kindness and selflessness. He never complained and was always willing to do whatever was needed for his family, offering his help with a smile on his face. His steady presence, generosity, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Gary is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara; his son, Michael (Julianne); his daughter, Lisa (Christopher); and his cherished granddaughters, Grace, Annalise, and Avery. He is also survived by his brother, Gerard; his sister, Elaine; his sister-in-law, Virginia; and his brother-in-law, Joseph (Laura); as well as his nephews, Joseph and Zachary, and his niece, Ashleigh.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gary's memory to St. Luke's University Health Network in support of the St. Luke's–Grand View Campus. The family is profoundly grateful for the compassionate and exceptional care Gary received there and cannot thank the physicians, nurses, and staff enough for their dedication and kindness.
Gary's legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and in the countless acts of kindness he shared throughout his life. He will be remembered always and missed forever.
A Celebration of Life for Gary will be held at a later date and details will be provided here.
