Long
December 1, 1948 – September 8, 2025
Gary R. Long, age 76, of Allentown, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025. Born in New Brunswick, he spent the majority of his life residing in Hightstown before relocating to Allentown in 1994. Mr. Long was a proud United States Army Staff Sergeant. He served during the Vietnam War in Europe. He earned his undergraduate degree from Trenton State College (now TCNJ) and a master's degree from Montclair State University. He retired from Hightstown High School after 38 years as an English teacher. Mr. Long was also a dedicated member of Hightstown-Apollo Lodge #41 F&AM for many years.
Gary's true passion was amateur (ham) radio. He served as a radio operator during his military service and continued with this hobby throughout his life, holding the ham call sign of KD2Q.
Son of the late Luther and Mary Long, Gary was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Robbins. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Steele; his niece, Dawn Robbins, his nephew, Thomas Robbins, III and his grandnephew and grandniece, Luther and Alexandria Schlaifer.
A viewing will be held Thursday, September 11th from 11-12pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown. A Masonic Service will begin at 12pm followed by a funeral service. Interment will be held in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society .
