Obituary

Major Frederich E. Heilman, 68, died Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Menlo Park Veteran's Home in Edison, NJ.

Born in the Bronx, NY, he was a life-long resident of Bordentown. He was a graduate of Clara Barton Elementary School and was a recipient of the American Legion Certificate of School Award. He then graduated from Bordentown Regional High School in 1967 with high honors, was a Letterman in Football, Basketball, and recipient of an Old English "B" and the Feaster award.

He received a Bachelor's in History in 1971 from Rutgers University and a Masters from Tulane University. He was a life member of the Delta Rho chapter of Alpha Phi Omega.

Major Heilman joined the Army in 1971. He graduated US Armor School in 1979 and was stationed in Kitzingen, West Germany.

He received numerous Commendations and was Awarded the National Defense Service Medal, The Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army service Ribbon Meritorious Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon w/Numeral 1. As a captain, Heilman was commander of Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 37th Armor, 1st Armored Division, for nearly two years in Ansbach, Germany.

He was discharged from the active Army in 1984 and continued to work with the Army as a civilian until his full retirement in December 2007. Major Heilman also continued to serve in the Army reserve for a number of years.

Major Heilman was a member of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States, National Railway Historical Society, American Historical Association, the National Society of Scabbard & Blade, C Company, 5th Regiment.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Alice Heilman. He is survived by his first cousins, Ursula Riegert and Elke Muench. He will be lovingly remembered by his friends, David Weatherby, Richard Siame, JoAnne & Michael Pylypiak, Steven Wurn III and Francine W Kaplan, Esq.

A Funeral Service will be held 12 noon on Friday, August 4, 2017, at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks Road, Bordentown, NJ 08505. Friends may call from 10 am until time of service at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at 1 p.m. sharp at the B.G. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562. www.pepplerfh.com.
