Fred Van Sant, Jr., 96, of Collingswood N.J. passed away Tues, December 21, 2010 at the Collingswood Manor. Born in Trenton, he was a long time resident of Barrington and Surf City, NJ. Fred served his country as a Lieutenant Colonel during WWII and was a contract administrator for the Federal Govt. until his retirement in 1973. A lifetime mason, Fred was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge #28 F.&A.M., Bordentown, a Past Master of Haddon Heights Lodge # 191 F.&A.M. and Past Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of NJ. A 1982 graduate of Syracuse University, Fred was passionate about conservation and the environment. A lover of nature, he was an active member of the Audobon Society and in his retirement traveled in his camper with his wife Peggy to ""the best birding spots"" in the states.
Son of the late Fred and Lida Van Sant of Trenton, he is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Margaret Van Sant (Gurtcheff); daughters Marilyn Van Sant of Phila.; Connie Ward of New Ipswich, NH, and Judy Gaffney of Kempton Pa. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM in the chapel of the Collingswood Manor at 460 Haddon Ave. Collingswood, NJ on Tues. Jan 4th. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Masonic Charity Foundation, 902 Jacksonville Rd, Burlington, NJ 08016.
