Obituary

Elvin Lloyd Carty, 97, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Virtua Memorial Hospital, in Mt. Holly. Born in Columbus, he was a lifelong resident until moving to the Masonic Home 2 ½ years ago. He retired as a 1st class millwright with Roebling Steel. He attended the Chesterfield Baptist Church, was a member of the Mansfield Township Senior Citizens, and a former 4-H Leader. He and his late wife, the former Rita Wainwright, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and spending winters in Florida.

Son of the late Alfred and Charlotte Carty, brother of the late, Norman and Alfred Carty, and grandfather of the late Nancy Lynn Carty; he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald L. and Betty Carty, two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Don Longstreet, and Donna and Donald Applegate; and his brother Wilmer S. Carty, all from Columbus, NJ. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Donna Carty-Pettit, Ronald Carty Jr, Beth Litus, Amy Reinhart, and Susan Potanovich; also eight great-grandchildren, Nancy Roberson, Craig and Morgan Pettit, Kaitlynn and Clint Carty, Brice and Blair Litus, and Ryan Potanovich.

Funeral Services will be 11 am, Monday, April 19, at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St., Bordentown. Interment will follow in Columbus Cemetery, Columbus, NJ. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial, contributions may be made to the Chesterfield Baptist Church, 209 Matthews Lane Chesterfield, NJ 08515-9638; or the Hedding United Methodist Church, 2289 Old York Road Hedding, NJ 08505.
