Dr. Elizabeth Wright Meirs, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sept. 22, 2007 at Compassionate Care Hospice in St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton, NJ. Born at Merino Hill Farm, Elizabeth graduated from Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA and later was awarded an Honorary Degree from her Alma Mater. After earning a secretarial degree from Rider College, she worked at DuPont for three years before embarking on graduate work at Vassar and Yale Divinity School, where she attained a Doctor of Divinity Degree. Elizabeth was a Professor of Religion at Vassar, Lawrence and Queens Colleges; at the latter two, she served as head of the department. She retired from the academic world and returned to her birthplace in 1972 but continued to work at Zion & Breen Architectural firm in Imlaystown and the Princeton Theological Seminary.
Elizabeth was the principal founder and organizer of the Friends of the Olde Yellow Meeting House near Imlaystown. Her efforts led to the restoration of the meeting house and parsonage during the 1980's. She was a longtime, active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hightstown.
Daughter of the late Henry H. Wright and Mary S. Ridgway and sister of the late Mary S. Wright, she is survived by her husband, William R. Meirs, Jr.; her brother, Richard R. Wright of Crosswicks; niece, Anne R. Wright of Milwaukee, WI; nephew Richard S. Wright and his wife Judith of Crosswicks, NJ; four grandnieces and six great grandnieces and nephews.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 320 North Main St., Hightstown, NJ 08520. Arrangements under the direction of the Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
