Elizabeth J. Matthews , 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2024, in Hamilton, with her family by her side. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, she had lived in the Hamilton Township area for over 47 years. Elizabeth graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1970 and worked as a registered nurse at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton for 46 years before retiring. Elizabeth was an avid member of the St. Francis Nursing Alumni Association and kept very close friendships with her fellow alums. An active member of Sacred Heart Parish, she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and a longtime organizer of "The Lord's Table", where she and her late husband, John, fed so many in need. Elizabeth was also a member of the Sons and Daughters of Erin, where she celebrated her Irish heritage by marching in the Trenton St. Patrick's Day Parade and Irish dancing at ceilis.  Above all, Elizabeth loved her family. From raising her two girls to watching them raise their own children, Elizabeth lived for family and will be missed by all.

Predeceased by her parents Mary (Lynch) and Kenneth W. Erath, Sr., her beloved brother, Kenneth Erath, Jr., and her cherished husband of 48 years, John Matthews. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Coleen and Thomas Clementson of Virginia Beach and Bridget and Michael Baill of Levittown, PA. Her sister and brother-in-law: Jacqueline and Vincent Cahill of Monmouth Junction, NJ. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Brian Baill, Tommy and Molly Clementson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Saturday April 6th, at Sacred Heart Church, 343 South Broad St, Trenton, NJ. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 pm Friday at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ and again from 9 to 10 on Saturday morning at the funeral home prior to Mass. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
