Edwin G. Barnes, Jr. passed away on April 7 in Hamilton, NJ. "Barney", as he was known to his family and friends, was born in 1931 in Doylestown, PA and spent most of his life in the Bordentown and Florence NJ area.
He attended Trenton Central High School and then served in the US Naval Reserves from 1951-1959. He married Elizabeth Esther Lisehora in August 1953. They were married for 63 years until her death in 2016.
Barney was one of the original owners of the City Beef Company of Trenton NJ, which he managed for 45 years until his retirement in 2000. An avid car buff and NASCAR fan, he was a member of the Rollin Oldies Car Club of Bordentown, exhibiting his 1937 Chevrolet 2-door sedan throughout the tristate area.
Son of the late Edwin G. and Mabel (Landis) Barnes of Bordentown, he is survived by his sister Helen Magowan, brother James H. Barnes, son Kenneth G. Barnes and his wife Marie R. Power-Barnes, daughter Joanne L. Pontus and husband John Pontus, grandchildren Kimberly L. Jones, Casey D. Jones, Samantha M. Rosso and husband Jeffrey G. Rosso, Danielle H. Pontus-Alvarado and husband Abel L. Alvarado, great grandsons Gavin Jones and Elijah J. Rosso and nieces and nephews Scott Magowan, Cindy (Magowan) Kuti, Melanie (Magowan) dela Cruz, and Catherine Barnes .
Calling hours will be 10 am to 12 pm, Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ with services beginning at noon at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Bordentown Cemetery.
