Edward William Steber, 85, of Whiting, passed away Friday at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in Trenton, Mr. Steber was a lifetime resident of Mercerville and Hamilton Twp. before moving to Whiting one year ago. A graduate of Trenton Central High School, he was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the Signal Corp in Northern Africa. After his time in the service, Mr. Steber worked as a baker in Trenton, a Metropolitan Insurance Salesman in the Bordentown area and as manager of a local real estate firm. In 1965, he decided to pursue his dream as a business owner and purchased Capital Bedding, then located in Trenton. He moved to Bordentown and was a vibrant addition to the business community until retiring in 1987. Even after retirement, Ed continued to assist with the business and continued upholstery work. He was a member of the Bordentown Elks, the Allentown Presbyterian Church, and the Masonic Lodge.
Son of the late Andrew and Anna Bumbera Steber and predeceased by his brother and two sisters, he is survived by his wife Ethel of 61 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Susan Steber of Chesterfield Twp. and his grandchildren, Carolyn and Scott Steber. Ed was a caring husband and father and an adoring grandfather. He loved golf, traveling to England and helping anyone who needed something fixed. He was a master at finding solutions to repair problems.
Funeral Service will be held Friday 12:30pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown. Interment will follow in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
