Edward A. Reid, 75, of Allentown, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he resided in the Allentown area for most of his life. A proud US Marine veteran, Ed served in Vietnam and recently made a trip to Parris Island with his daughters. He retired from General Motors and over the years he worked for Globus Plaza, the Borough of Allentown, Public Works, and Project Freedom. Ed was a staple of the Allentown community. He volunteered for many groups including Pop Warner and Allentown Little League.
Ed loved his Philadelphia sports teams. He could often be found in his "Flyers Room" watching a game. He loved his country and the US Marines - Semper Fi, collecting memorabilia over the years. He loved his community and his friends. As a talented handyman, he helped many of his neighbors over the years with repairs, snowplowing, and construction projects. Above all, Ed loved his family. He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather.
Son of the late Edward and Emma Reid, he was predeceased by his son, Steven Edward Reid; his siblings, Harriett Lewellyn and Gary Reid; his parents-in-law, Richard and Lillian Young; his brother-in-law, Robert Nixon; and two nephews, Allen Edward Reid and Robert Doak. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda Susan Reid; his children, Patty Reid Kelley of Allentown, Kim Reid and her partner Jennifer Powell of Olympia, WA, and Scott Reid and his wife Shauna of Hamilton; his grandchildren, Stephanie Elizabeth Kelley and her partner Devyn Bex of Pittsburgh, PA and Mack Steven Kelley and his fiancée Cloe Hicks of Olympia, WA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Kahle, Barbara and John Williams, and Laurie and Karl Hurban; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Darlene Young, Teresa Nixon, and Tommy and Jeannette Young as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing will be held from 6-9pm on Tuesday, September 10th at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown, NJ. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 11th from 10-11am at the funeral home followed by the interment in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. A Luncheon following the burial will be held at Project Freedom,223 Hutchinson Rd., Robbinsville Twp., NJ 08691.
Casual dress is preferred so please wear your favorite Philadelphia sports team clothing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ed's name to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) , St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , or Make a Wish Foundation .
