Obituary

Earl T. Slaper, 86, passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton, with his family by his side. Born in Utica, NY, he had been a resident of Bordentown since 1954. He was a retired Engineer from Bristol-Myers Squibb of Lawrenceville and was very active in the community.

Earl was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Bordentown, Mt. Moriah Lodge #28 F&AM of Bordentown, the Bordentown Rotary Club, the Bordentown Township Republican Club, the Bordentown Senior Citizens Club, and the Mohawk Canoe Club.

Earl served on the church vestry and as President of the Rotary Club, volunteered in the Burlington County Library System, the Masonic Home of New Jersey, Burlington County Animal Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, the YMCA, and was a founding member in building the Star Civic Pool and the creation of the Star Civic Pool Association. Earl received the Burlington County Volunteer of the Year Award in 2005.

Son of the late Theodore and Marie Slaper, he is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Betty Jane Slaper (nee Brown), two sons: Michael Slaper and his wife Dorothy of Morrisville, PA and Gerald Slaper of Bordentown, his daughter and son-in-law: Janet and Randall Steen of Long Valley, NJ, five grandchildren: Stacy Slaper-Odom of Weaver, AL, Jennifer Slaper of Bordentown, Jamie Slaper of Brooklyn, NY, Sarah Steen of Brooklyn, NY, and Matthew Steen of Long Valley, NJ, and three great-grandsons.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 6 at 11 AM at Christ Church, 130 Prince Street, Bordentown, NJ.
