Dorothy McLaughlin, 87, of Upper Freehold, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at RWJ Hospital in Hamilton. Born and raised in Paterson, she was a former resident of Millstone Township for 22 years and Cream Ridge for three years before moving to Upper Freehold in 2007. A graduate of Montclair University, Dorothy retired as a teacher and supervisor for the Hawthorne School district after 32 years of service. She was a six year member of the Millstone Board of Ed., where she served as president and vice president, served as chairman of the Millstone Twp. Local Assistance Board for 14 years and president of the Millstone Twp. Shade Tree Commission. Dorothy was also a founding member of the local Republican Committee, served one term as Republican County Committeewoman and was a member of the Millstone Twp. Planning Board where she served as vice chairperson for two years.
Predeceased by her husband of 53 years, John McLaughlin, USN (Retired), Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Allyn McLaughlin of Upper Freehold Twp; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Justin and Jonathan Mumpower of Upper Freehold; nephews, David White and his wife, Suzanne of PA, John Asman and his wife, Agnes of SC and Neal Asman of SC and her nieces, Jayne and Harvey Cleveland of SC and Nancy and Joe Ortiz of TN.
Funeral services will be held 11am on Tuesday, April 23 rd at the Allentown Presbyterian Church, 20 High St. Allentown. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown. Friends may call Tuesday from 10am until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Fox Chase Cancer Center, Office of Institutional Advancement, 333 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111 or to Crossroads, C/O Allentown Presbyterian Church, PO Box 122, Allentown, NJ 08501.
