IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy J.
Hendrickson
September 13, 1949 – December 20, 2024
Dorothy J. Hendrickson, age 75, of Cream Ridge, New Jersey passed away on Friday, December 20th, 2024. She was the wife of Samuel Hendrickson III, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.
Born in Allentown, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Warren Grant Jr. and the late Olive (Becky) R. Grant. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Warren E. Grant of Cream Ridge, NJ, Edith G. Hlubik and her husband John of New Egypt, NJ, and infant brother.
Dorothy graduated from Allentown High School in 1967 and married Samuel Hendrickson III two years later after their relationship grew from a chance meeting at a local burger joint. She then spent several years working at The Peddie School for the alumni department. In 1990, Dorothy began working at the Plumsted Township Municipal Building. A few years into her tenure, she became the Municipal Clerk of Plumsted Township. In this position, Dorothy completed numerous trainings to excel in what many consider to be her favorite job. When she retired in 2018 after 28 and a half years of service, a sign was displayed to dedicate the administrative wing of the Plumsted Township Municipal Building to her.
When she wasn't working diligently to support her community, Dorothy found great pleasure in spending time with her family. She loved traveling around the world with her husband. They enjoyed many cruises together throughout the years, frequented local destinations such as the Poconos, and traveled as far as London to see all the world had to offer.
While she was a naturally independent and strong-willed woman, Dorothy will be remembered for the love she held for family and for her appreciation of the simple things in life. Whenever given the chance, she would express the pride she had in "her boys," Sam and Adam. As her children moved out of the house and began their own families, Dorothy spoiled her dogs and eventually her four grandchildren.
Dorothy grew beautiful rhododendron bushes and spent many peaceful mornings watching the wildlife in her backyard. She thoroughly enjoyed her retirement and took it as an opportunity to catch up on true crime shows and leisurely days at home, appreciating the beautiful life she had built.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Samuel Hendrickson III and her two children: Samuel Hendrickson IV and his wife Carla of Cream Ridge, NJ, Adam Hendrickson and his wife Jennifer of Cream Ridge, NJ; sister-in-law Lorraine Grant of Cream Ridge, NJ; grandchildren: Emily, Casey, Finn and Freya; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.Throughout her full and rich life, Dorothy Hendrickson was loved "more than you know."
