Donna J. vanVeldhuisen, 46, of Crosswicks, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family after waging a four year battle against ovarian cancer. Born in New London, CT, she resided in Hightstown for many years before moving to Crosswicks in 1998. A 1982 graduate of Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, Donna earned her Bachelor's Degree in Toxicology from Northeastern University in 1987. She was employed with the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection for 22 years and was concerned about the environment. Donna was an active member of St. David's Episcopal Church in Cranbury, where she served on the Altar Guild and was a coordinator and teacher for the Journey to Adulthood (J2A) youth program. She was a member of the Chesterfield Twp. Environmental Commission, the Chesterfield Public Education Fund and was a coach and active member of the Chesterfield Twp. Athletic Association. Donna was enthusiastic about sports; she loved college basketball and also was a scorekeeper for the Northern Burlington High School Swim Team. She was especially passionate about her children's sporting events and artistic pursuits.
Donna is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Rex; her beloved children, Greta, Thomas and Derek; her parents, Alfred and Arlene Restivo of Groton CT; siblings, Robert and Tara Restivo of VA, Scott Restivo of CA, Thomas and Karen Restivo of CT and Nancy Restivo and her husband Joseph Ferrucci of CT; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willem G. and Grace vanVeldhuisen of Whitehouse Station; brother-in-law, Alex and Elizabeth vanVeldhuisen of Stanton; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held 11am on Monday, February 21st at St. David Episcopal Church, 90 S. Main St. Cranbury, 08512. The Rev. Karin R. Mitchell will officiate. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Sunday from 1-3pm and 6-8pm with a prayer service held at 7:30pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 So. Main St. Allentown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made in Donna's memory to The St. David's Episcopal Church Building Fund and/or the Kaleidoscope of Hope Foundation www.KOHNJ.org
