Donald Y. Robbins, Sr., 89 of Whiting, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at his home. Born in Nelsonville in Upper Freehold Twp., he was a longtime Upper Freehold Twp. resident before moving to Whiting in 2005. Donald started out as a local potato farmer. After years of farming, he started his own business with one of the area's first backhoes. In 1967 Donald joined the Operating Engineers Local 825. He retired in 1988, and he enjoyed traveling with his wife Ruth across the country in their motorhome. Donald also enjoyed a good meal, playing cards, trips to Atlantic City, and watching the Philadelphia Phillies. Above all, Donald was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who loved his family.

Son of the late Joseph and Retta Robbins, he was predeceased by his son, James Robbins and by his brother Calvin Robbins. Donald is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth R. Robbins; his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dr. James Castronova of Beach Haven; his son and daughter-in-law, Donald Jr. and Janette Robbins of New Egypt; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Robbins; his grandchildren, Erin Murphy and Dan Gurel, Don and Kim Robbins, Dina and Mike Stizza, Jimmy Robbins, Lisa and EJ Winters, Stacy and Patrick Dixon, Kayla and Adam Davis, and Brandi Robbins; six great grandchildren; a brother, Henry Robbins; a sister, Marguerite Southard; a sister-in-law, Frances Robbins; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Walter Szymanski as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 12 noon on Monday, December 16th at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 South Main St., Allentown. Interment will follow in the Cream Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 10am until the time of service.
