IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald O.
Carroll
September 26, 1969 – January 28, 2026
Donald O. Carroll, 56, of Whiting, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Born in Trenton, Don resided in New Egypt for many years before moving to Florida and more recently to Whiting. Don loved spending time at the New Egypt Flea Market where he would sell repurposed treasures and was a friend to everyone since being back in New Jersey.
Don’s career was spent training Standardbred Race Horses. There were many but his favorite was a very special trotter “Helluva Hush” who raced at the highest levels. Don’s biggest achievement was winning the “Nat Ray Invitational Trot” at the Meadowlands with him. Don was always passionate and hard working when it came to his horses followed by a no excuse attitude. He always did his best. Would work all day if he had to. All while being followed around by his beloved banana eating dog “Jethro”. He went on to train for himself in Pompano for some time after that among so many other places. Making friends wherever he went, Don was a huge asset to his industry and people admired and respected him. Much later in life Don bought Helluva Hush and provided him the proper retirement he deserved. He eventually gave him to a sweet girl and her family to care for. That's how Don was. He loved his many animal friends more than people he would say.
Son of the late Donald W. Carroll, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Reed. Donald is survived by his loving mother, Gail E. McNabb; his sister and brother-in-law, Tracy A. and Denis J. Healy; his brother, Thomas S. Carroll and his girlfriend (Don’s Buddy) Nancy Steer as well as nieces and nephews who will all miss their Uncle Don greatly.
He was an amazing man with a heart of gold. An avid sports guy and a jokester like no other. To know him was to love him.
Contributions can be made in Don’s name to The Standardbred Retirement Foundation. A not for profit organization in Upper Freehold Township that rescues, rehabilitates and finds lifetime homes for retired Standardbred racehorses. https://www.adoptahorse.org/memorial-commemorative
A celebration of life for Donald will be held at a later date to be announced.
Arrangements are under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
