Daniel L. Smires, 90, of Ellisdale, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012 at his home.  Born in Trenton, he was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran serving during World War II.  In 1982, he retired from McGuire Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic after many years of service.  Daniel was a member of the Ellisdale United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Woodruff Rod & Gun Club.  Daniel was very family oriented and loved spending time with them.

Son of the late Leslie and Margaret Smires, Daniel was predeceased by his wife, Ruth and his son, Dean.  He is survived by his son, Glenn and his wife, Judy of Ellisdale; two daughters, Christine Hayes and her husband, Paul of Clarksburg and Susan Leggatt of Whiting; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Wells; his grandchildren, Dean Smires, Peggy Smires, Amanda Hayes, Renee Wells and Ian Wells; a great grandson, Daniel Smires; a sister, Delores Kerns as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 10am Tuesday, December 11 ^th at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown.  The Rev. Ed Conway will officiate.  Interment will follow in Ellisdale Cemetery.  Friends may call Monday from 6 to 9pm and again Tuesday from 9am until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ellisdale Cemetery Association, C/O Judy Smires, 62 Crosswicks Ellisdale Rd., Allentown, NJ 08501.
