Obituary

Charles Norman Newton , age 94, passed away in the early morning of Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Preferred Care, in Hamilton Township, NJ. Born in Chicago, IL, October 10th 1927, he was raised in Camden, NJ. After serving in the signal core in World War 2, he attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Arts in Philadelphia on the GI bill were he met his wife Ruth. He graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in illustration. His early career was as an art director/illustrator /layout artist for several magazines in Philadelphia, including; Focus and Youth Magazines. Later, after moving to Oaklyn then Cherry Hill New Jersey, he became very active as a member of the Cherry Hill Art League. Charles spent many years teaching adults how to paint and children how to create art; including one of his favorite lesson plans,  "How to illustrate and fly a kite!".  He continued his work as an art instructor for Pemberton and New Egypt High School night classes after relocating to Bordentown. He worked on children's book illustrations with his late wife Ruth, wrote poetry and was a painter in his own right. He loved camping with his family throughout New England in the summer months. He  also loved his long walks and often slipped away for a weekend camping in the New Jersey pine barrens. We will miss his witty humor as well as his whistling and singing show tunes as he baked his famous "Molasses, Raisin, & Every- nut" cookies. He will be deeply missed.

Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Lygia Newton, his siblings: Gail (Peggy) Foran and Adair (Winkie) Simmonds and his beloved wife Ruth Eleanor Alexander Newton. He is survived by his is daughters: Melonie B. Newton of Bordentown and Aritty J. Newton and her husband Edwin H. Kramer of Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada, and his son and daughter-in-law, Justin L. Newton and Janet Pierce of Roebling, New Jersey. His grandchildren: Jamie Lisowski, Lydia F. Newton, Joshua Newton, and great grandchildren: Tristen and Cadence Lisowski. He is also survived by his sister, Charmian Rosenheim, and brothers, Ashton, Jon and Phillip Newton.

At this time services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Bordentown, NJ.
