Chalmer W. Carver, Jr., 87 of Oak Island, NC died Saturday, February 25, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 6, 1924 in Trenton NJ, son of the late Chalmer W. and Louise Leiwerling Carver. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert B. Carver. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth M. and his children, Richard and Cynthia Carver of Calabash, NC and Mary Elizabeth and William C. Tallman, Jr. of Waretown, NJ, five grandchildren, Brian Carver, Kristin and John Heter, Willam C. Tallman III, Michelle and Hunter Gray and Lynn Tallman. Survivors also include a brother-in-law, Charles R. Jaggers and sister-in-law, Marion T. Carver and several nieces and newphews.
Educated in Hamilton Township, NJ, he graduated from Hamilton High School, Class of 1942 and served in the US Army during World War II. Following his discharge in 1946, he attended Rider College School of Business and Northeast Stenographic School. He worked for the Department of the Army, Fort Dix, NJ in the Judge Advocate Office as Chief Court Reporter for 33 years. A resident of Allentown, NJ for forty years, he moved to Oak Island, NC in 1992.
Chalmer was a former member of Christ Church, Bordentown, NJ where services will be held 11 am on Monday, March 5, 2012 with The Rev. J Matthew Tucker officiating. Interment will be in Christ Churchyard. Arrangements are under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 130 Prince Street, Bordentown, NJ 08505 or Deborah Heart and Lung Foundation, 20 Pine Mill Road, Browns Mill, NJ 08015.
