On October 31, 2012, Catherine passed away at her home surrounded by her family. Catherine was born in Newark, NJ in 1923. She was one of six children of Irish immigrant parents, James Sweeney and Catherine (Sheehan) Sweeney. Catherine was formerly of Hazlet, NJ where she lived for 30 years and spent her last ten years living in Western Monmouth County. Catherine worked in many jobs from textiles during the World War II era to home health aide during the 1980's and for many years as secretary of her husband Richard's construction business. Her primary life-long occupation and passion was that of mother and matriarch. She will be remembered by many as a kind and caring woman who was sincerely friendly and kind to everyone she met.
She is predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, John Michael Curran Jr. who passed away in 1969. She is survived by her second husband Richard Provvedi; her sister Margaret Farrell; her seven children Kathryn Zappulla, Patricia O'Neill, William Curran (and his wife Gail), John M. Curran III (and his wife Celeste), Geraldine Stoll (and her husband Thomas), Mary Ann Glenn (and her husband David), and Pamela Francis (and her husband Michael); eighteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and two more on the way.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help defray the costs of Catherine's unreimbursed medical expenses and care. Contributions should be payable to GraceWay Bible Church and should include a designation that the contribution be directed to the Catherine Curran-Provvedi Memorial Fund.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 11:00 am immediately followed by a memorial service beginning at approximately 12:30 pm at the Graceway Bible Church, 1934 Klockner Road, Hamilton, NJ 08619. (609) 586-0223 Directions http://www.gracewaybc.org/about/directions .
