Obituary

Carlton W. Gravatt, 92, of Columbus passed away, Monday, June 9, 2014 at Samaritan Hospice in Mount Holly. He was born April 27, 1922 on the family farm in Allentown. During World War II, he served his country in the US Army Air Force, reaching the rank of Sergeant. Carlton loved his family, hunting, bowling and antique cars. In 2013 a commemoration of the family farm's 100th anniversary was celebrated. This was the highlight of his lifelong love of farming. Most recently he drove cars at the Manheim Auto Auction. Carlton was a member of Hightstown American Legion Post #148, the Antique Car Club of America and the NJ Farm Bureau. He was a past chairman of the Upper Freehold Board of Adjustments and a former Director of Farmers Co-op of Trenton. At one time he was a registered Holstein breeder and active in many dairy organizations. Carlton was also a member of the Chesterfield Baptist Church.

Son of the Late Vernon and Anna Gravatt and brother of the late Kenneth Gravatt, Carlton is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Michael Ameser; three sons and daughters-in law, Alan and Margaret, Roger and Linda and Bruce and Shannon Gravatt; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and family may call Thursday, June 12th from 6-9pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 So. Main St. Allentown. Funeral service and entombment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Carlton's name to the Chesterfield Baptist Church, 209 Matthews Lane, Chesterfield, NJ 08515 or to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053.
