Obituary

C. R. ""Dick"" Friedrich, 97, of Whiting, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Pines at Whiting Assisted Living.  Born in Allentown, he was a 1932 graduate of Allentown High School where he played varsity baseball and basketball.  Dick resided in Burlington for 52 years before moving to the Whiting area.  A World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, he was proprietor of the Burlington News Agency and later founded the Burlington Sports Center in Burlington City. In the 1930's and 40's he played semi-pro and minor league baseball. An avid hunter, fisherman, bowler and golfer, Dick was NJ State skeet shooting Champion in 1955, officiated high school and college basketball and was a baseball umpire.  He was active member of the Broad St. United Methodist Church where he served in the choir and was a tenor soloist for 30 years.

Son of the late Adolph and Emma Friedrich, he was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Betty Friedrich and his sisters and brothers, Russell, Paul, Anna Jane, Dorothy, Mary, Alfred and Robert. He is survived by his nephews and nieces, James, John and Roger Friedrich, Dorothy Steele, Pauline Eaton, Alma Williams and Ruth Flaherty, as well as many other great nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 11am, Saturday, August 25 th at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown.  The Rev. Kim Crutchfield will officiate.  Friends may call Saturday, 10am until time of service. Interment will follow at Princeton Memorial Park, Robbinsville.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Broad St. United Methodist Church, 36 E Broad St., Burlington, NJ 08016.
