Obituary

Dr. Calvin Moon, 100, of North Hanover, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Yardville, Dr. Moon was a lifetime area resident and attended Bordentown High School. After graduating in 1942, he spent a year at Rutgers on a State scholarship.  From 1943-46, Dr. Moon served in the US Navy Submarine Service, where he served as Petty Officer First Class Radar Operator on the USS Razorback Submarine in WWII which played an integral role in five battle patrols in the Pacific Theater. He received two NJ Distinguished Service Medals for his service. Following his discharge, he returned to Rutgers and graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Agricultural Research. He then went on to study at the University of Pennsylvania graduating Cum Laude with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (VMD) in 1952.

Dr. Moon was a well-respected veterinarian practicing in New Jersey for 47 years. He began his career at Wood Veterinary Hospital and later founded Hamilton Veterinary Hospital. He also helped establish Columbus Central Veterinary Hospital with his associates and served as the Medical Director there for 20 years and was a diplomate with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.

Dr. Moon was an active member of his community. He received the Chesterfield Township, Father of the Year award, served on Northern Burlington Jr/Sr High School Board of Ed, was a Scout Master for Troop 55 in Crosswicks, and was a 35-year member, former past president, and Paul Harris Fellow of the Bordentown Rotary Club. A lifelong hunter, Dr Moon was a member of the South Branch Hunting Club since 1978; was a Ham radio operator for Mercer County Emergency Service; and a member of the Rutgers Oral History Society. He was the Base Commander of the New Jersey South Submarine Veterans and Honorary Life Member of the USS Razorback Association.

Calvin is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, June Ann Moon; sister, Phyllis Dinardo; children, Catherine McClure, Joseph Moon, Mary Kandebo, and Jennifer Goodman; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Friday, September 13th from 12-2pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown. Interment will follow in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
