Obituary

Bernard L. Prince, 88, residing at Crestwood Manor in Whiting, NJ passed away on August 25, 2017. He and his wife, Barbara lived formerly at Crestwood Village 4 in Whiting and prior to that at Bernie's most beloved home, their own Prince Nursery, LLC, in Cream Ridge, NJ.

Bernard was born in Manchester, NH on September 1, 1928 to Mr. and Mrs. Honorius and Marie-Rose (Desmarais) Prince.

A U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, Bernard graduated New England College as a Civil Engineer in 1953 and married Barbara Craw on June 13, 1953. He went to work for the State of New Hampshire Highway department for a few years, then on to Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff, HNTB in 1956. Beginning as a Civil Engineer, he worked in design and construction, later studied at Rutgers University to prepare for and earn his Professional Engineering license, and eventually became an Associate with the firm. Much of his work included roadway, bridge and transportation design, construction and inspection as well as consulting on numerous projects on the New Jersey Turnpike. After 38 years at HNTB he retired to run his self-made business, Prince Nursery, Inc. in Cream Ridge, NJ. Bernard and wife, Barbara spent many of their winters in Ellenton, Florida and later in San Diego, California.

Bernie was a hard-working, caring, creative and fun-loving, handsome and well-dressed man, always striving to be, in his words, "one of the good guys". He loved working on his tree nursery, gardening, woodworking, golfing, singing and dancing, a good nap and the occasional tropical rum punch. His children and grandchildren were foremost in his life and he created many memorable experiences that his family and friends will always treasure.

Bernie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara M. Prince, his son Craig Prince, wife Lisa and children Evan, Alex, Harrison and Spencer Prince; daughter Brenda Prince, husband Terry Jarmon, and children Cameron and Jordan Tousley and Christopher Jarmon; son Keith Prince, wife Rosemary and children Heather and Steven Prince; Daughter Alison (Prince) Ugarte, husband Juan and children John, Nicolas and Anthony Ugarte; sister-in-laws, Mary Prince, Margaret Skeris and husband Carl and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernard is preceded in death by his parents, Honorius and Marie Rose Prince and his brother, Norman G. Prince of Manchester, NH.
The family of Bernie Prince extends our sincere thanks to those at Whiting Health Care Center, Ascend Hospice, Crestwood Manor and all of his other friends and caretakers for the great friendship, respect and care given to him.

Memorial Service to be held at Crestwood Manor in Whiting, NJ on September 23, 2017, 4:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share any good stories, photos and memories of Bernie.
