Bernard J. McClain Sr, 86, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Samaritan Hospice in Mt. Holly Township. Born in Abington, PA he had lived in the Columbus area for the last 57 years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran during WWII and again during the Korean War. Bernard was owner/operator of Anchor Moving and Storage of Trenton and later Tranter Moving and Storage of Newtown, PA. He was a Council Member of Bordentown Township for two years as Deputy Mayor, which lead him to be Mayor of Bordentown Township during 1978-1980. He belonged to the NJ Conference of Mayors, was President of the Traffic Club of Trenton, the Trenton Kiwanis Club and the National Defense Transportation Association and well as a member of the Springfield Country Club.
Predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Mary McClain, his brothers, Lawrence and Ernest, his sisters, Louise and Erna, he is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years Kathleen McClain, his sons and daughters-in-law: Bernard and Patricia, Patrick and Kim and Timothy and Candy, six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Funeral Services will be 11 am Wednesday, August 19 at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St., Bordentown, NJ. Interment will follow in Bordentown Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 am until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Bernard's name to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053
