IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Ann
Childs
November 17, 1939 – September 9, 2024
Barbara A. Childs , 84, of Bordentown passed away on Monday, September 9th, 2024, in Mt. Holly with her loving family by her side. Born, raised and forever a Bordentonian, she raised her four children there, and she was a crucial part of the Bordentown City Police Department as Dispatcher and Special Officer for 32 years, where she helped Bordentown be its best.
After her retirement you could find Barbara in her garden, or in Atlantic City gambling, or in her home with a few scratch offs, but her family was the one that hit the Jackpot because they had Barbara. She was loved by everyone who met her, and she will be missed by all.
Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family, her sarcasm and quick wit would be used to try to playfully embarrass her grown children in public, in which she succeeded regularly.
When her children were younger she was definitely a mama bear One of her children ran away from home, because he was only 6 and wasn't allowed to cross the street, she followed him to the playground around the corner and just sat in the car watching him until he finished the sandwich he had packed and then brought him back home.
As a 5-time cancer survivor, she was an inspiration to all, her strength and determination in the face of adversity while never complaining or letting it slow her down, helped to shape her children into who they are today, teaching us that life is precious and worth fighting for. For these lessons we will always be grateful.
Predeceased by her son Matthew Childs and her granddaughter Calysta Childs, Barbara is survived by her husband of 62 years; Robert Childs, her children; sons Mark Childs and Richard Childs (Alicia) and Daughter Beth Childs (Jim) as well as Granddaughters, Brandi Helmacy and Arianna Childs. She is also survived by her brother Gary Gile(Sharon) and sisters; Janet Hunt (James) and Rose Simmons (Matt),
Services for Barbara will be held at 11am on Tuesday, September 17th at Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St. in Bordentown. A visitation with the family will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Monday, September 16th, 2024 and again on Tuesday from 10am until the time of service.
