Arthur Perry Jr., of Calabash, NC, died Saturday, July 21, 2018 at his home. Born in Trenton on September 28, 1932 to the late Gertrude and Arthur Perry Sr., he graduated from Hamilton High School in 1951 and proudly served in the US Navy for four years. Art worked for New Jersey Bell Telephone and became active with the Union. He served on the Board of Directors for various organizations including the United Way of Delaware Valley, the Visiting Nurse Association of Mercer County and Hamilton Hospital.
Art completed a four year Union Leadership course at Rutgers University in 1966. He was elected business manager/president of Local 827, a position that he held until 1981 when he was assigned as a rep for the IBEW in Washington, DC. From 1981-1989, he competed a Collective Bargaining/Benefit course at the George Meany Union Center. He was appointed the Director of Telecommunications of IBEW in 1983 and retired in 1995.
After his retirement he moved to North Carolina and spent 12 years volunteering in Brunswick County. He was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2005 for his work with the Agency on Aging, Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee for Brunswick Co. NC. He was an active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in North Myrtle Beach, serving as Chairman of the Property Commission for several years and also served on the Vestry as Junior Warden and later Senior Warden.
Art is survived by his wife of 39 years, Eloise Steward Perry. He was predeceased by his son Edward. He is survived by three sons, Kenneth of Southport, NC, Roger (Lynn) of Jackson, NJ and Richard of Hamilton, NJ; three step children, Leslie Brady of Hamilton Square, NJ; JoAnn Carmichael (Wayne) of Jacobstown, NJ and Lester Pullen (Lisa) of Chester, MD; daughters-in-law, Linda Perry and Jo Marie Frew; 17 incredible grandchildren, 12 wonderful great grandchildren. Art is also survived by a sister, Gertrude Crozer of Lawrenceville, NJ. He was predeceased by his sister, Emily Smith and his twin brother, Clark.
Funeral service will be held 11am on Friday, July 27
th
at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 So. Main St., Allentown. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 6-9pm and again on Friday from 10am until the time of service.
