Arthur C. Hemphill, 88, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the Masonic Home of NJ, in Burlington Twp. Born and raised in Egg Harbor City, he graduated from Egg Harbor High School in 1938 and attended Muhlenberg College and Lehigh University. He had worked for Phillip Insurance Company of Atlantic City, Kauffmann Insurance Agency and Egg Harbor Boat Company, both of Egg Harbor City and National Tool & Manufacturing Company of Kenilworth, NJ.

He was a Past Master and 50 year member of the Hiram T. Dewey Masonic Lodge #226, F&AM, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, The Scottish Rite Valley of Southern, NJ and a 33 degree mason. He was also a member of the Crescent Temple AAONMS, the Jockey Hollow Chapter of the NSSAR, the Rudolph Elmer American Legion Post 158 and a former member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Egg Harbor City. He enjoyed playing the clarinet and saxophone and was a member of various bands including the Weekstown German Band.

Husband of the late Irene Hemphill (nee Bell) and brother of the late Madeline Hemphill, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Daniel Prado of Galloway, NJ and Sandra and William Zeus Jr. of Summit, NJ. Two brothers, Henderson Hemphill of Northfield, NJ and Otto Hemphill of Egg Harbor City. Two grandchildren, Jessica Brayne and her husband Jeffrey of Middletown, NJ and W. Jared Zeus of Sherman Oaks, CA., four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Funeral Services will be 11:30 am Saturday, April 25, at the Masonic Home Chapel, 902 Jacksonville Rd., Burlington. Interment will follow in Egg Harbor City Cemetery, Egg Harbor City. Friends may call from 10 am until time of service at the Chapel. Masonic Services will begin at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Arthur's name to the Masonic Home of NJ, 902 Jacksonville Rd., Burlington, NJ 08016.
